The simple truth is that satisfied and happy employees stay at the job where they are valued. They are more likely to step up when they are needed. They will take extra shifts when someone is sick or grieving. Not only are they good for business, they are good for the employer too!
So, how can you make sure that your employees are satisfied? Here are some tips to show them.
Praise your employees when they are doing a good job. You need to show your employees that they are proud of them. However, this shouldn’t just be when they step up and pick up an extra shift. You should praise them when they do an exceptionally good job, or they pulled off something that they didn’t think that they could do. Even a simple “thank you” can make someone’s day better.
Give your employees time off (and don’t bother them). Cell phones have made it really hard for employees to take time off. Even when they are at home, you could call them to ask them a question, or even ask them to come in to work. They need days off to unwind, so that they can come back to work refreshed. Don’t bother them at home, unless you have to.
Make work fun. You want your business to be a place where your employees don’t mind being. Allow them to make friends with your other employees. Allow them to goof off. Find ways to laugh at the silly things that may happen. This will make the whole environment much happier, and you will feel it too!
In order to make your employees feel appreciated, you need to show them that you care. A simple “thank you” will go a long way, especially when someone really struggled with a task, or came in when they didn’t feel like it. That being said, you also need to make sure that your employees have time off, so they can unwind and take care of themselves. Too much work isn’t healthy!
