Why Exit Interviews Are Important.

Exit interviews are talks between an employer and an employee who has chosen to leave the business. They can also be done when a big project is finished, so that the process can be evaluated. Though you may not want to hear what your employee has to say, it is a good idea to have an exit interview.

Here are some reasons why you should. 

You will find out what caused your employee to leave. Your employee might be leaving because of pay or benefits. He or she may be leaving due to the work environment. Whatever it is, you need to hear about it, so that you are able to make the necessary changes before you lose another employee. While you may not be able to pay your employees what they could get elsewhere, you may be able to make it up to them in other ways. 

You may also want to ask them what would make them stay. If there is something that you could do to get them to stay, wouldn’t you want to? You may be able to keep your employee, so it might be worth the sacrifice. 

Exit interviews allow you to take a deeper look at your workplace. You might learn a lot about the day-to-day business, as well as the morale of your employees, by asking a few questions to the employee that is leaving. Other employees may not want to hurt your feelings, so they won’t be as willing to talk about certain things, like employee morale.

If you complete an exit interview when a big project is completed, you can figure out what went right, what went wrong, and what you need to do for the next project. You need to listen to your employees so that you can figure out how the next project can go even smoother! 

By having exit interviews, no matter how uncomfortable they are, you can take a good look at your business and how it is run. You may find out that your employees aren’t as happy as you thought they were! You should use this information to make positive changes before you lose any more employees.
