Prioritize, Delegate and Enjoy Yourself to Deal with Stress

Nowadays, stress has become part of everyone’s life, so much so that we barely even acknowledge it. We take it for granted that we have to perform well in the workplace, keep ourselves afloat financially, manage our homes and families, eat well and continue to be fit and healthy at the same time. If we have time, we might even try to have a social life instead of doing Netflix marathons to tune out everything that’s around us. How is it possible to avoid getting stressed out and still continue to do everything you want to do? Here are some tips:

  1. Prioritize: So there are a number of things that you might want to accomplish in your life. But are they all equally important? Do you find yourself spending a lot of time doing things that aren’t really important to you and spending less time on the things that are? In that case, it might be time to set down your priorities. Sit down with a pen and paper and write down the things that are most important to you. Make sure that you spend more time on the things at the top than the things at the bottom of that list.
  2. Delegate: It’s possible to delegate many things in your life. These may be things at work or at home. If a task in the office doesn’t really require your expertise but can be done by anyone, why not give it to someone else to do? If being a good cook isn’t all that important to you, order in from a healthy food place. If you don’t have time to clean, get a cleaning service to do the job. There are so many ways in which you can free up time for the things that really matter. You just have to figure out which things you’re ok with doing and which things can be delegated.
  3. Enjoy Yourself: Enjoyment is important in life. If you don’t take time out to enjoy yourself, you’re not going to be able to keep working. In fact, every time you find yourself feeling blocked, irritated or unable to get on with your work for one reason or the other, it’s usually because you haven’t taken any time out for yourself to do the things that make you feel good. So think about what’s truly fun for you. Is it reading a mystery novel? Watching a black and white movie? Or doing some painting/sketching? Make sure that you take the time to do some of these things at least a couple of times a week. You should see a marked difference in your levels of stress.
